The electro-indie duo Uh Huh Her are gearing up for U.S. tour this March and April. On the trek, the critically acclaimed group--comprising Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey--will perform songs from their forthcoming new album Nocturnes due out late this spring. The tour kicks off March 13 in Tucson, AZ and hits Houston, Dallas Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and many more cities (see full itinerary below).
For the follow-up to their 2008 debut album Common Reaction, GREY and Hailey tap into old rock influences, making a conscious effort to embrace the beauty in imperfection, rather than put a high gloss shine over things like vocals and rhythms. The dreamy, shadowy subject matter, coupled with their late-night recording sessions, helped inform the title of the album, Nocturnes. Hailey and Grey passed the early recordings to producer and longtime friend Wendy Melvoin, formerly of Prince and the Revolution. She not only extended her opinion, but offered to help the band complete the album at her personal studio space, located within the famed Henson Studios compound in Los Angeles.
Mixed by Tchad Blake and mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway, the album’s “Same High” was written for and is featured in the hotly-tipped film The Kids Are All Right. The film has gone on to receive four Academy Award nominations (“Best Picture,” “Best Actress,” “Best Supporting Actor” and “Best Screenplay”) as well as winning the Golden Globe Award for “Best Picture,” the top honor. The album’s "Criminal," with its opulent, harmonic synths and vocals,--typifies that attitude, as Grey purrs out her lament--“I told it to you straight, somehow you didn't hear a thing/It's sad, what a shame"--on top of lush Hammond B3 chords. Uptempo tracks like "Darkness Is" and "Disdain" push the envelope even further, showcasing a big rock sound that still has one high-heeled foot firmly planted in the sophisticated pop Grey (Keys, Guitar) and Hailey (Keys, Bass) are known for.
