NAMM 2008: New Rhodes pianos to ship in 2008

The new Rhodes will be available in three colours.
The new Rhodes will be available in three colours.

Ever since they were debuted at the 2007 Winter NAMM show, electric piano fans have been keenly awaiting the arrival of the new Rhodes models. Well, they're not quite ready yet, but revised versions were on show at NAMM 2008 and they should be shipping in the Summer.

The new Rhodes is known as the Mark7 and comes in 61-, 73- and 88-note configurations. It's available in three colours, too: black, red and white.

There are S, A, and AM series models, with the latter two featuring a 3-band EQ. The AM keyboards also incorporate the new Rhodes MIDI system, which promises to continuously track the slightest movement of any key.

Feature highlights on all the Mark7 models include an improved, more responsive action, long-lasting tines and American-built fibreglass cases.

Rhodes is also releasing new speakers. These are designed to match the keyboards so come in various sizes and colours.

We spent a bit of time playing the new Rhodes and first impressions are that it feels and sounds just as good as its illustrious predecessors. Prices are still to be confirmed, but given that these are proper electro-mechanical instruments, don't expect them to come cheap.
