RETRO AD REPRINT - Kawai K3 (1986)

Publish date:

"This is just like the Yamaha DX7 but cheaper," the music store salesman told my parents back in 1986. (Truth be told, it wasn't anything like a DX7, save for the fact that it had keys and it was a synthesizer). Nevertheless, I was soon the proud owner of my very first synth, a Kawai K3, which I used with my first and only cover band, OnEdge, to play various school dances across suburban New Jersey.

I eventually did trade that Kawai K3 for a Yamaha DX7 a year later, (a DX7S, to be exact), but I will always remember playing the solo from the Cars' "Just What I Needed" on my very first synth.
