The unique drum mode in the Korg Kaossilator series makes them great for live performance: Slide your finger horizontally on the trackpad to change rhythmic complexity; slide vertically to add drama through reverb and filtering. Stirring out circles generates evolving grooves. That frees your other hand to play solos or chords on a keyboard.
You can get this controlled chaos in Ableton Live (with significantly better sounds) by assigning the same MIDI CC to the Speaker On button on multiple Live tracks, and then setting each track set to respond to a different range of the CC. In the screenshot, Track 1 plays when the value is 1–31, Track 2 plays from 32–63, and so on. And drums are just the beginning; see my video at keyboardmag.com.
