Terrace Martin is on a roll. From his playing and production work with Rap and R&B superstars like Kendrick Lamar and SZA, to his 2016 Grammy-nominated solo effort Velvet Portraits, the Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist's talents know no musical boundaries. (He's even co-producing jazz giant Herbie Hancock's new album along with fellow keyboardist Robert Glasper, as well as touring in Hancock's band throughout Fall of 2017).
Martin's latest release on the Ropeadope label Terrace Martin Presents The Pollyseeds -Sounds of Crenshaw Vol. 1finds him hard at work blurring sonic lines, with his nimble collective delivering a potent mix of jazz, R&B, funk and more.
We're choosing Martin's song "Funny How Time Flies" (featuring Robert Glasper) as the first in our new series THURSDAY TRACK PICK. It's got hints of records past, but what it really sounds like is an artist making music for today. And that's the definition of cool.
