NAME: Rob Clores
HOMETOWN: Jersey City, N.J.
MUSICAL TRAINING: I studied at The Manhattan School of Music
FIRST GIGS: Original bands in NYC, clubs, piano bars, corporate events - anywhere I could play!
MUSICAL INFLUENCES: Ramsey Lewis, Johnny Johnson, Billy Preston, Richard Tee, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Cars etc.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW: Thom Yorke's Anima, Joseph Arthur's Come Back World, Queens of the Stone Age - Villains.
MY BIG BREAK: John Popper's solo record Zygote kind of put me on the map.
LATEST PROJECTS: I'm touring with Jesse Malin to promote his new album Sunset Kids. I'm also working on my solo project which is grunge-influenced with ambient keys and vocals.
FAVORITE KEYBOARDS AND WHY? The Nord Stage 3 is a workhorse. It's got great samples and it's easy to use. The Dave Smith/Sequential Prophet-6 is versatile, easy to program, and I love the onboard effects. I also love the Moog Minimoog Voyager, Spectrasonics Omnisphere, Spitfire Phobos.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? Work on my solo record, and trying to play some more hard rock!
ADVICE TO THE NEXT GENERATION: Keep your mind open, study music history, and try to have a unique voice.
