He's the keyboard force behind Peter Frampton's latest recordings and tours. Get to know Rob Arthur, our TALENT SCOUT Artist of the Week!
NAME: Rob Arthur
HOMETOWN: Anoka, Minnesota.
MUSICAL TRAINING: I played in my high school band, then attended college for two years.
FIRST GIGS: Cover, R&B and funk bands in Minneapolis
MUSICAL INFLUENCES: The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, plus many jazz artists
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW: Paul McCartney, plus old R&B and soul music.
MY BIG BREAK: When I moved from Minneapolis to New York City. That's when bigger things began to happen for me.
LATEST PROJECTS: Playing on the latest Peter Frampton record, creating new art with watercolors, and a couple other surprises coming up!
FAVORITE KEYBOARDS AND WHY? Nord makes the best keyboards for me, recreating Wurlitzers Rhodes, Hammond B3s and pianos. I used all real piano, wurly and B3 on Peter's record, and my beloved Farfisa made a quick appearance as well.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? In the fall, I'm often done touring, which is true this year. I have several celebrity events I'm participating in during the next few months. I also have a few top secret multi-media projects that my label Hwy7Records is launching soon!
ADVICE TO THE NEXT GENERATION: Playing with a good feel is everything. Listen to other musicians and where they feel the "pocket." There are many musical geniuses that broke down barriers to get us to the kind of music we now know. Study and find those greats and listen to what contribution they had in altering the music of their day.
