Keyboardist RC Williams has worked with acclaimed artists like Kirk Franklin, Erykah Badu and Snoop Dogg. Get to know our TALENT SCOUT Artist of the Week.

NAME: RC Williams (aka Rceezy)

HOMETOWN: Dallas, Texas.

MUSICAL TRAINING: I studied at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas and the University of North Texas for jazz studies.

FIRST GIGS: Performing with Kirk Franklin and God’s Property was my first professional touring gig.

MUSICAL INFLUENCES: Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Ahmad Jamal, Bernard Wright, Donny Hathaway, Bobby Lyle and Oscar Peterson just to name a few of them.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW: I listen to a lot of my friends' bands and music: Robert Glasper, Shaun Martin, Kamasi Washington, Hiatus Kaiyote. I take in a lot of music because I love it and I never know what kind of gig I will get called for.

INSTRUMENTS PLAYED: I started on the drums and played trombone for a while, but piano is my main instrument now.

MY BIG BREAK: I would say my first big music break was with Kirk Franklin and God's Property, I recorded my first album with them and played the Hammond B3 organ on that record. We had a big hit called "Stomp," which sold over four million records, won Grammy Awards, and took me all over the United States, performing on major television shows like David Letterman, Jay Leno and others. As a 20 year old, it was an incredible start to my music career.

LATEST ALBUM: The Feel by RC & The Gritz.

FAVORITE KEYBOARD GEAR: I love the Fender Rhodes suitcase model. I'm also a Yamaha Motif and Korg Kronos guy. And I love analog gear like Moogs, the Yamaha CP70 and the Wurlitzer, just to name a few.

THE STRANGEST SONG REQUEST I'VE EVER GOTTEN: It has to be the theme to "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" at my Wednesday night jam session. That guy sang the entire song! Luckily, I watched that show. It had incredible music in it.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ME? The next RC & The Gritz record is due to be released September 21, 2018. So I'm super excited about our third album. Also, I'm having my first music festival entitled "Gritznic" for the city of Dallas on September 15. We have an amazing lineup featuring national acts and a host of local talent from Dallas and the surrounding areas.  I'm also touring with Erykah Badu as her Music Director and have been for years, plus I'm touring with Snoop Dogg and playing with the LA Philharmonic Orchestra this year.

ADVICE TO THE NEXT GENERATION: Keep God first in your life, keep pushing and setting goals and work every day to achieve those goals. Spread music, peace, and love to everyone. Music heals.
