NAME: Kevin Savigar

HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, California (Originally from London, UK).

MUSICAL TRAINING: I took piano lessons from the age of five, and then attended the Trinity College of Music in London. Plus lots of listening to everything!

FIRST GIGS: I did studio sessions in London, West End theatre work, and then played in various bands.

MUSICAL INFLUENCES: Everything from Herbie Hancock, Richard Tee, Nicky Hopkins and Johnny Johnson, to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Ravel, Debussy, Hans Zimmer, Steve Reich and more.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW: Ed Sheeran’s “Galway Girl.”

MY BIG BREAK: Hooking up with Rod Stewart in 1978 to play on his world tour .

SONGS I’VE WRITTEN: “Forever Young”, “Young Turks”, “Passion”, “Tonight I’m Yours”, “Every Beat of My Heart”, “Can’t Stop Me Now”, “Love Is”, and “Please” (Rod Stewart), “Stilettos” (Kelsea Ballerini), “Nothing to Lose” (Josh Gracin), “No Mistakes” (Patty Smyth), “Not Going Down” (Jo Dee Messina), “Cinderella” (The Cheetah Girls), “Hold On” (Jamie Walters).

LATEST PROJECT: Another Country (Rod Stewart), plus playing keyboards live on his current U.S. tour.

FAVORITE KEYBOARDS/GEAR AND WHY: I love the Hammond B3 I’m using on tour – It’s so expressive and a hell of a lot fun to play! Also, vintage Wurly and Rhodes, and a Steinway Model B as it’s so pretty looking and sounds beautiful. Also, as I do a lot recording “in the box,” I’m also a big fan of a lot of plugins like those by Spectrasonics, Native Instruments, Spitfire, Waves etc. Plus Apple’s Logic.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? Writing and producing more in Los Angeles after this tour ends in September, along with several trips to Nashville to write songs.

ADVICE TO THE NEXT GENERATION: Live the life, listen to as much different music as possible, and break all the rules! Also, take the time to learn how things like publishing and other important deals work.
