Jason Peterson DeLaire has music in his blood. Literally. The singer and multi-instrumentalist hails from Minnesota's world famous Peterson family, who collectively are responsible for more musicians being out of work than the invention of the digital sampler! Peterson has toured alongside Prince, performed with singer/pianist Oleta Adams, and is currently on the road with famed vocalist Michael Bolton. He's our TALENT SCOUT artist of the week.

NAME: Jason Peterson DeLaire

HOMETOWN: Minneapolis, Minnesota

MUSICAL TRAINING: My family, (The Peterson Family), the Berklee College of Music, Prince, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Donny Osmond and Michael Bolton.

FIRST GIGS: My first professional gig was when I was 15. I played a gig with my Mom at the Rosewood Room in Minneapolis. I would play various jazz gigs around Minneapolis while I was in High School, as well as with some local funk bands.

MUSICAL INFLUENCES: Prince, Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, David Sanborn and John Coltrane.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW: Herbie Hancock and Dexter Gordon on the soundtrack to the movie Round Midnight.

INSTRUMENTS PLAYED: Saxophone, keyboards, bass and vocals.

MY BIG BREAK: After my first year at the Berklee College of Music, I went on tour with Richard Marx. That was the summer of 1988. In 1991, I went to work for Prince and I went on the Diamonds and Pearls World Tour as a member of Carmen Electra's Band. We were the opening act for Prince! What a mind blowing experience.

LATEST ALBUM: My new single is called "Downtown." I released it under the name J.P. DeLaire.

FAVORITE KEYBOARD GEAR: I love the Yamaha Motif series!

YOUR MUSICAL FAMILY: I come from an incredibly talented musical family, The Peterson Family. My Grandma Jeanne Arland Peterson was an incredible pianist. Her husband Willie was a bandleader in the Twin Cities and also the first organist for the Minnesota Twins. Their children include Linda (my Mom), Billy, Patty, Ricky and Paul, who have all worked with a veritable "Who's Who" in the music business.

WHAT’S NEXT: I will be on the road this summer playing saxophone and keyboards on the Michael Bolton world tour. I will also be promoting my new single, as well as writing and producing.

ADVICE: Make friends, keep your nose clean, and practice!
