Antoine “Fats” Domino, the rock 'n' roll piano pioneer, died Tuesday October 24 in suburban New Orleans.
He was 89.
Domino shot to fame with hits like "Ain't That a Shame," "Blueberry Hill," and "I'm Walkin'," infusing infectious New Orleans rhythms and rollicking piano triplets into his songs.
Fellow New Orleans piano hero Jon Cleary told NPR, "The triplets thing was one of the building blocks of New Orleans R&B. And that's really the famous Fats Domino groove. Everybody knows that."
Domino sold over 65 million records and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
