Martin Gore, founding member and still primary songwriter of seminal electronic rock band Depeche Mode, has a new solo album, simply titled MG. It definitely doesn’t sound like a Depeche Mode record, nor like the dance-oriented minimal techno of his recent collaboration with Vince Clarke, VCMG. It incorporates elements of those oeuvres, to be sure, but also is filled with lush synthetic soundscapes that evoke Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis at their best.
