Paul Buckmaster, whose arrangements graced works by artists as diverse as Elton John, David Bowie, Train, Guns N' Roses and Taylor Swift, has died.

Notable songs featuring Buckmaster's artistry include Elton John's "Tiny Dancer," "Levon" and "Your Song," Carly Simon's "You're So Vain," David Bowie's "Space Oddity," Train's "Drops of Jupiter," and countless others.

Buckmaster was 71.

Back in 2009, Buckmaster spoke of his work with Elton John in an interview for Xecutives.net.

"Elton told us, 'You do what you like; I trust you completely.' That was fantastic, because it gave us, and me as arranger in particular, the freedom to be creative, and to make our visions and ideas come true... The principle was: The song comes first! That was our approach to the art of recording music back then. We treated each song as an individual personality and character."
