Oscar Peterson schools us on jazz piano

In this 1979 clip from Dick Cavett's talk show, jazz piano legend Oscar Peterson demonstrates how different jazz pianists and composers--including Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, George Shearing, Nat King Cole--would approach a song, as well as a few techniques of his own. We were immediately struck by the quickness and fluidity of Mr. Peterson's responses to all of Cavett's questions and his genuine passion for educating people about music in an approachable and friendly way. Though the clip is accessible to a general audience, for pianists it's like taking a personal master class with Peterson. The world could use a few thousand more of him!
