Longtime Keyboard reader and Keyboard Corner Forum member Steve Force
had a specific gig need, as keyboardists often do: He wanted to use his Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12
on a prog rock project, without needing to carry a whole other heavy keyboard just to get a piano sound that would be needed only occasionally.
Not finding a suitable patch in the Prophet 12 factory banks (it's not really about piano sounds), he set out to create one himself, getting surprisingly good results. His story caught our attention because, after all, pushing electronic instruments beyond their limits and wringing unexpectedly great sounds out of them has only recently been something that keyboardists don't need to do for every gig.
