Twenty year-old Emmet Cohen has been turning heads and ears of late, most recently as a finalist in the 2011 American Pianists Association Cole Porter Jazz Fellowship Awards. His debut disc In The Element shows the buzz to be well deserved, with the nimble-fingered Cohen skating across a varied set of jazz jewels and originals, backed by the blistering rhythm section of Joe Sanders and Rodney Green. Listen to Cohen’s Latinized original “The Swarm” for proof positive of great things to come. (emmetcohen.com)
