Dengue Fever, Cannibal Courtship

August 24, 2011

By Robbie Gennet
Dengue Fever’s Cambodia-meets-Cali vibe is as alluring as ever. Led by Chhom Nimol, the band has developed their sound from a hybrid of sorts into its own genre of music, with Ethan Holtzman adding bold vintage keyboard sounds—including a Farfisa Compact through a Leslie, a Nord Stage Compact, and a Baldwin Fun Machine organ. The way Holtzman plays on tunes like the upbeat “Mr. Bubbles” and the reverb-drenched “Sister in the Radio” fits the mood perfectly. Otherworldly and intoxicating! (Concord | denguefevermusic.com)
