Winter Webcasting| February, 2008Winter got its hold on you yet? From my years in the Midwest and on the East Coast, I remember well how the excitement of new-fallen snow eventually gave way to a hopeless feeling brought on by the interminable grayness. Some years that happened right about this time of year, other years had me in that funk by Thanksgiving. My solution to combat the winter blues: practice like crazy, and learn something new. Worked like a charm. Along these lines, though admittedly purely coincidental, we’re undertaking to provide a warm, interactive environment where you can pick up new skills and enjoy some real human voices discussing topics you’re interested in. Imagine if you could sit with one of us Keyboard staffers while we interview a great player or as we explain the ins and outs of the latest software — that’s the idea behind our new Music Player Network Artist Master Class Webcast Series and Music Technology Webinar Series. The first Artist Master Class Webcast features legendary jazz artist Jeff Lorber, and it’s hosted by our own Stephen Fortner. Jeff discussed and demonstrated many of his coolest tunes, and the folks who signed up to participate in the webcast as it was broadcast live were able to send in questions via a chat feature. Prior to the webcast, Jeff provided lead sheets and MP3s of some of the tunes he illustrated. The music was great, and hearing Jeff talk about his creative process was inspirational. Best of all, even if you missed the original webcast, you can still experience it by visiting www.visualwebcaster.com/musicplayernetwork/storefront. In our Music Technology Webinars, you’ll get tons of tips you can use in your music right away, from the best in the business: our own contributors and staff. Editors at Large Craig Anderton and John Krogh have both contributed webinars: Craig’s is on Mastering in the Home Studio, and John has created two, the first on Propellerhead Reason 4 and the second on Native Instruments Kontakt 2. From underlying concepts and studio procedures to drill-down-through-the-menus detail, Craig and John each provided enough tips to keep you busy for hours. You can learn more about our Music Technology Webinar Series at www.keyboardmag.com. We hope you’ll find our webcasts and webinars to be helpful and inspiring, and effective at chasing away those winter blues. Have fun!
