Roland Fantom-XMay, 2005One of the great features of the Roland Fantom-X sequencer is its ability to change tracks and sounds without stopping playback — or your creative flow. This feature is called Rehearsal Mode. For this example we’ll use the Performance User 01 patch, called Seq Template. 1. Press Mixer under Performance, then Press F5 Perf List to select User 01 Seq Template. 2. Press the Record button, and you’ll hear a metronome. The Real-time Rec Standby window will appear in the display. 3. Set Track Select to Auto, Record Mode to Mix, set Loop/Punch to 4 measures, and select a Quantize setting. Press Play. The sequencer will start. 4. Press the Record button again to put the Fantom in Rehearsal Mode. This is a “safe” mode that allows you to practice your idea until you’re ready to record it. Press Record again when you’re ready to start recording. Lay down your part. 5. Once you play your part, put the Fantom back in Rehearsal Mode by pressing the Record button again. Press the Play button to hide the Record Status window. This allows you to select different tracks by using the left and right cursor keys. 6. Press F1 Patch List to select different sounds, and repeat the process of putting the Fantom in Rehearsal mode to create other parts. |
