Roland Fantom-X

MIX-IN your vintage instruments.

The multi-effects in the Fantom-X contain some of the same COSM modeling effects found in Roland’s guitar processors. With this in mind, we’ll use a standard guitar to create some amazing guitar amp combinations. But this idea is not just limited to guitars; you can plug almost anything into the input of the Fantom-X.

1.

1. First, using a standard 1/4" cable, plug a guitar, Clav, or other synth into the left (mono) input of the Fantom X.

2.

2. Press the MIX-IN button so it lights up, then Press SHIFT and MIX-IN at the same time to get to the MIX-IN parameters. Make sure the LEVEL knob is turned up, and play the instrument to make sure audio is being passed through the Fantom X.

3.

3. Use the Value Dial to change the inputs of the MIX IN section from LINE IN L/R to LINE IN L. Cursor down to MIX IN OUTPUT ASSGN and change it from DRY to MFX.

4.

4. Press the EFFECTS button, then Press F3. Change the MFX 1 effect to preset #39 GUITAR AMP SIM.

5. Use Realtime Control Knob #1 to select different AMPS; use Knob #4 to select different SPEAKER CABINETS. Use the cursor keys to navigate around the effect page to modify the EQ settings.

Experiment with different combinations; play some riffs, then press SKIP BACK sampling. You’ll notice that everything you played was being recorded. Think about the possibilities, and enjoy!
