roberto-fonseca-akokanHavana-born pianist and composer Roberto Fonseca takes the Latin jazz world by simmering storm on his new album Akokan. The gifted instrumentalist, whose work was previously heard with Buena Vista Social Club and the late vocalist Ibrahim Ferrer, stakes a claim to a sound all his own, with lyrical melodies and two-fisted piano power. Echoes of Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner, and Chano Dominguez abound on memorable tunes like “Lo Que Ne Hace Vivir.” Recommended. (Justin Time, robertofonseca.com)
