MTV premiered Mayday Parade's newest music video for their hit single "Stay," which comes off their latest self-titled album, that debuted at #12 on the Billboard Top 200. The band is wrapping up a headlining stint on the entire 2012 Vans Warped Tour, where they’ve been sharing the stage with bands such as The Used, Rise Against, Taking Back Sunday, and many more. Coming up in the Fall is a few South American dates followed by a full run in the United Kingdom with The Summer Set, The Cab, and Natives. In the video below, keyboardist and vocalist Derek Sanders gives Keyboard readers an exclusive on how to play "Stay."
The video for "Stay" is an emotional ride through the pain and fear of losing a loved one, as front-man Derek Sanders delivers a powerful performance. The song itself is a ballad that anyone can relate to and the video beautifully compliments that. MTV declares, "some heart-touching string arrangements gives the track that 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' blockbuster quality". Make sure you've got some tissues ready for this one! Mayday Parade has been touring in support of their hugely successful self-titled album (out now on ILG), whose #12 debut on Billboard's Top 200 marked a career high chart position as well as career high sales numbers. The album also reached #5 on iTunes' Album Chart on release day. The achievement is significant, as it marks a 30% increase in sales from their last career high, 2009's Anywhere But Here (Atlantic). Critics are in agreement, with Alternative Press awarding the album 3.5 out of 4 stars, while MTV's Buzzworthy Blog praises their "more holistic approach to songwriting," and AbsolutePunk loves their "solid pop-rock with massive hooks."
Co-produced by Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, the all new self-titled LP Mayday Parade
marks a return to their songwriting roots; the entire album was self-written in a collaborative effort by the five bandmates. The 12-song collection transpired through careful introspection and it echoes the musicians' maturation over the two years since their second album, Anywhere But Here. The band chose to pen each of the songs themselves, making the album perhaps their most personal to date, complete with relatable lyrics and their undeniable charm.
Mayday Parade is vocalist/piano Derek Sanders, bassist Jeremy Lenzo, guitarists Alex Garcia and Brooks Betts and drummer/vocalist Jake Bundrick.
