Korg Triton and Triton Extreme

February, 2005

Creating new programs à la Dr. Frankenstein.

On the Triton, you can build your own custom Programs quickly by “robbing body parts” from other Programs. Follow this example to see how easy it can be.

1.

1. Let’s begin with an INIT Program; we’ll use E-126. Press the MENU key and select P1: Edit-Basic. Set the Oscillator Mode to Double, and then press the OSC Basic Tab.

3.

2. Touch the “?” in the upper right corner of the screen to open the Page menu. Select the “Copy Oscillator” command; a dialog box will open. This allows you to copy oscillator settings from any Program. Select OSC1 from Program A000 “Noisy Stabber” (User-C000 for Triton Extreme users). Press OK twice to confirm your selection.

3. Now you’ve got a great detuned sawtooth sound on OSC1. Open the Page menu again and go to the Copy Oscillator dialog box. This time, let’s try OSC1 from Program B008, “The Pad” (User D008 for Extreme users). Keep in mind that we want to set the “To:” value to OSC2, so we don’t wipe out the sawtooth. Press OK twice.

4.

4. Let’s “steal” some effects using the same type of copy-and-paste moves. Press the MENU key and select P9 Edit — Master Effects. Once again, open the Page menu; select the Copy Master Effect command. This opens another dialog box where you can copy any Insert or Master effect from any Program in the Triton and paste it into your Program — as either MFX1 or MFX2.

Hunt around for the Effect you want; MFX2 is usually some sort of Reverb, and MFX1 a coloration effect. Insert Effect 1 is the best place to start when “shopping” through the Triton’s effects. What could be easier?
