Hammond Organ Company Announces First Annual Hammond Hall of Fame
Inductees to be fêted at Winter NAMM show, January 2014
In celebration of their 80th year of manufacturing the “King Of Instruments,” Hammond Organ USA announces the formation of a Hall Of Fame to commemorate the Pioneers who have advanced (and continue to advance) the musical legacy of Laurens Hammond’s iconic instrument.
The list of candidates is impressive, indeed, encompassing the entire history of Hammond Organ, from Porter Heaps and Jesse Crawford in the 1930s to the prominent Rock artists of today. The criteria used in selecting the artists follows Hammond’s “The Sound, The Soul, the One” motto, citing the artist’s contributions
to music in general, how the Hammond Organ played a part in their
success, and how their approach to using the Hammond has influenced the
generations that followed. The list takes into consideration all styles
of Hammond playing-Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Country, R&B, and others,
extending to our global artists and Hammond’s worldwide proliferation.
Hammond fans worldwide will choose and vote from a list of over 100 candidates, casting their choices on Hammond’s official Facebook page. Voting
begins October 6 and ends on November 30, 2013. The top 25 will then
be referred to a Blue-Ribbon Panel of music industry journalists,
artists and executives who will confirm and elect the “freshman class.”
A sweepstakes with the opportunity to win Hammond apparel and a new Digital
Leslie Pedal will be held in conjunction with the voting process.
The Hammond Hall of Fame
finalists will be inducted at a special ceremony and concert to be held at
the Anaheim Hilton Hotel during the Winter NAMM show in January 2014. “It’s a great way to celebrate our 80th year, and bring attention to the brilliant talent that has chosen our instrument to express their art,” said Gregg Gronowski, Director of Sales and Marketing for Hammond USA. Along with the Hall Of Fame, Hammond will establish the Laurens Hammond Award, a tribute and recognition given to those who have made significant, if
non-musical contributions to the development of the Hammond Organ.
Each year the panel will
convene to add new members to the Hall, and Hammond fans worldwide will
be given the chance to elect members.
