Using synchronous LFOs Dave Smith Instruments EvolverMarch, 20051. Start by selecting factory preset bank 1 program 9, and hit the start button. You’ll hear the four-bar sequence playing. 2. Now, we’ll use LFO 1 to provide a stereo filter sweep over an eight-bar period. Hit the Row 6 button, and turn LFO 1 Frequency to S32 (32 steps), Shape to tri (Triangle), Amount 1. Start by selecting factory preset bank 1 program 9, and hit the start button. You’ll hear the four-bar sequence playing. 2. Now, we’ll use LFO 1 to provide a stereo filter sweep over an eight-bar period. Hit the Row 6 button, and turn LFO 1 Frequency to S32 (32 steps), Shape to tri (Triangle), Amount to 50, and Destination to FLS (Filter, Split) and listen to the synchronous filter sweep separately in each channel. 3. Next, set LFO 2 Frequency to S32, shape to PUL (Pulse), Amount to 10, and Destination to OAF (all oscillator frequencies); hit Reset and you’ll hear the sequence transpose up on every other loop. 4. Try different synced LFO frequencies on LFO 2; a setting of S8 will sound much different, as will S1. Note also that the LFOs and sequencer will sync up to an external MIDI clock. This gives you a general idea how the LFO can be used in sync with the sequencer. Using the four LFOs with four sequences provides for a wild amount of crazy interactions, all in sync. Many of the factory presets take advantage of this — play around with different destinations and sync times with other sequences. |
