Top Keyboardist Michael Bearden to Author Column in Keyboard Magazine
|
December 22, 2010, Los Angeles, California —
Michael Bearden, currently musical director and keyboardist on the TBS cable channel’s
Lopez Tonight and recent musical director for Michael Jackson’s
This Is It concert series, has signed on to author a monthly column in
KEYBOARD,
the world’s leading information resource for keyboard players,
composers, producers, and all users of today’s music production
technology.
It
is no exaggeration to say that Michael Bearden’s career is the envy of
any keyboard player. He has toured and/or recorded with such names as
Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston,
George Benson, Liza Minelli, Lenny Kravitz, Aretha Franklin, and Ray
Charles, to name a few, and served as musical director for Madonna,
Jennifer Lopez, and D’Angelo, among others. He was also keyboardist for
the star-studded
We Are One
concert held on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial the day before
President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration—an event to which the June
2009 issue of
KEYBOARD was devoted, featuring Bearden on the cover. He appears prominently in, and associate-produced, the documentary film
This Is It,
which chronicles the preparation for Michael Jackson’s highly
anticipated comeback concerts before Jackson’s passing in June of 2009.
Among his many album credits is Herbie Hancock’s
Possibilities, which hit number one on
Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz chart.
“I’ve been reading
Keyboard magazine since I was a kid,” says Bearden. “Now, I’m proud to call many of the heroes I discovered in
Keyboard my friends and colleagues. I can safely say that
Keyboard
always motivated me to attain the skills that I saw in its pages every
month. Now, I want to know what will inspire the next generation of
musicians. I’d like to try to give some real insight into my world
as a keyboard player, musical director, composer, arranger, producer,
and into all of the other hats one has to wear in order to make it in today’s
professional music scene.”
Questions on keyboard performance, technology, touring, or music business topics may be sent to Michael Bearden at
MBColumn@me.com. Questions sent to this email address may be
selected to form the basis for an upcoming column. Bearden’s first
column is scheduled to appear in the March 2011 issue.
