Editor Stephen Fortner recently attended “Roland University” at Roland US headquarters in Los Angeles. Mainly devoted to dealer training, it showcased the new Jupiter-80 synth. At the end of the day, we caught up with Roland’s Scott Tibbs to check out sounds and discuss the underlying technology. It was also a blast to try it side-by-side with a vintage Jupiter-8. Do you require expansion card slots INSIDE your studio computer?
 No, because I use a laptop or "mini" machine and rely on USB and/or FireWire
 No, because I use Thunderbolt peripherals
 I'd prefer expansion slots, but can live with workarounds like a PCI expansion chassis
 Yes, I absolutely require that my main music machine have expansion slots
